On January 19, the State Duma rejected five bills at once on the indexation of pensions for working pensioners, TASS reports . The deputies rejected the initiative proposed by the Liberal Democratic Party in 2021, which involves the return of indexation of insurance pensions for pensioners who continue to work. Also rejected was a draft law by Oksana Dmitrieva, a member of the State Duma Budget Committee, and another similar bill submitted by the Communist Party of the Russian Federation. In addition, the bills of the Supreme Council of the Republic of Khakassia and the Legislative Assembly of the Nenets Autonomous Okrug were rejected.
Before the vote, United Russia deputy Svetlana Bessarab, speaking on behalf of the relevant committee on labor and social policy, said that now is “not the time to make such decisions” due to sanctions pressure and a budget deficit.
Back in 2020, President Vladimir Putin promised at his annual press conference to deal with the issue of indexation of pensions, but so far the issue has remained unresolved. Pensions of working pensioners have ceased to be indexed since 2016.
