Human rights activist Rustem Latypov was released. Since February 2015, he has been imprisoned in the Ufa Hizb ut-Tahrir case. He was released after serving his entire sentence. This is reported by the project “Support for Political Prisoners. Memorial".
Recall that on February 4, 2015, security forces arrested 23 Muslims in Ufa, three more managed to escape, they are wanted. All were accused of involvement in the Hizb ut-Tahrir organization, which the Russian authorities declared banned.
According to Memorial, the investigation was accompanied by numerous violations: in addition to procedural violations already familiar in Russia, there were reports of torture and beatings of defendants during their detention in a pre-trial detention center, as well as falsification of case materials at the stage of judicial investigation.
Another 20 people were arrested in Moscow in October on the same charges. Allegedly, involvement in Hizb ut-Tahrir became a convenient reason for arresting Crimean Tatar activists and human rights activists after the annexation of Crimea. Since then, FSB raids on Crimean Tatars have become an almost daily occurrence.
