Price ceiling will not affect oil products made from Russian oil abroad – EU

Restrictions on the supply of Russian oil products, according to which they cannot be bought more than the established price, do not apply to oil products made from Russian oil abroad. This follows from the explanations published on the website of the European Commission.

In addition, the price ceiling does not apply to mixtures derived from oil products of Russian and non-Russian origin. Such mixtures are goods with a different customs code.

The price ceiling rule went into effect on February 5. The ceiling is set at $100 per barrel for light oil products (including diesel and gasoline) and $40 for dark products. European insurance and transport companies are prohibited from insuring and transporting products purchased without these restrictions.

According to the International Energy Agency, cited by RBC, in 2022, 142 million tons of oil products were exported from Russia. In the European Union, 40% of imports were Russian oil products.
