The court canceled the verdict to the employees of the reserve in Kamchatka. They were convicted for embezzlement of 455 million rubles

The Kamchatka Regional Court overturned the sentence of employees of the Kronotsky Reserve, who were convicted of embezzlement on an especially large scale. As the deputy director of the reserve said on his Facebook page   Pyotr Shpilenok, they were released.

“We are so tired of fighting, proving that people were just doing their duty,” Shpilenok said. According to him, minor violations were committed in the work of the reserve's employees, incomparable with the terms to which they were sentenced.

According to Kam24 , on the eve of the prosecutor asked to replace the real terms to which the workers of the Kronotsky Reserve were sentenced to suspended terms, but the court overturned the verdict and sent the case back for a new trial.

In July 2022, the court found Oksana Terekhova, Roman Korchigin, Daria Panicheva, and former reserve employee Nikolai Pozdnyakov guilty of embezzlement and sentenced them to three to five and a half years in prison. According to investigators, they embezzled 455 million rubles, which were allocated in 2015-2016 for cleaning the reserve, and buried waste on its territory. An independent examination did not find any traces of burial. In addition, the court of first instance satisfied the claim of the prosecutor's office for the recovery of 454.6 million rubles from the convicts.
