The performance "The Game of Gin", in which Liya Akhedzhakova played the main role, was removed from the repertoire of the Sovremennik Theater. The actress herself told Novaya Gazeta about this.
According to Akhedzhakova, the director of the theater, Yuri Kravets, called her and said that he was forced to withdraw this performance, since he was inundated with angry letters addressed to the artist.
In a comment to Podyom, Akhedzhakova stated that the decision had already been made and “Nothing can be done about it”:
“There is an order, these performances [“The Gin Game”] have already been replaced. The director warned me that I would no longer be in the repertoire at the request of some angry people who write letters to him, and the Department of Culture confirmed that I was removed from the theater's repertoire.
I sit and cry. I understand everything, I know who writes it, who organizes it, but nothing can be done.”
The Gin Game is the last performance in which Akhedzhakova played at the Sovremennik Theater. The play "First Bread", where the artist also played a major role, was removed from the repertoire last year.
