Death toll from gas explosion in Novosibirsk rises to eight

The death toll from a gas explosion in Novosibirsk has risen to eight, the regional health ministry said . Seven victims remain in hospitals. Doctors have already sent two people home.

Two residents of the Omsk region were detained in the case of a partial collapse of a house, RIA Novosti reports with reference to the UK. They worked for a gas stove maintenance company and checked the stoves in the house on Lineinaya Street where the incident took place.

An explosion in a five-story residential building thundered early in the morning on February 9. A fire started after the explosion. The residents of the building were evacuated. As a result of the explosion, according to various sources, one or two entrances collapsed, at least 30 apartments were destroyed. A criminal case has been initiated under the article on the provision of services that do not meet safety requirements.

This is the second gas explosion in Russia with such consequences in the last three days. On February 7, an explosion occurred in a residential building in the town of Efremov, Tula Region. The entrance collapsed, killing eight people.
