The death toll from the earthquake in Turkey has reached 14,014, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said. "Injuries were received by 63,794 people," the Anadolu agency quoted the president as saying.
The death toll in Syria is at least 3,162, bringing the total death toll to over 17,000.
The weather in the affected areas of Turkey is now freezing. Temperatures dropped to -6°C in some provinces. Rescuers continue to search for survivors, writes CNN.
Erdogan noted that the authorities intend to provide housing for all citizens who lost their homes during the earthquake. Within a year, the president plans to fully restore the provinces affected by the disaster.
Critics of Erdogan believe that the authorities were very slow to respond to the earthquake.
