Six pregnant Russian women, who were suspected of "false tourism" by the migration service and detained at the Buenos Aires airport, were allowed to enter Argentina. This was reported to TASS by the lawyer of three of them, Christian Rubilar. RBC, citing one of the detainees, also reports that the women were allowed to enter.
According to one of the women, they had already been issued passports, after which they went to hotels.
The head of the Argentine migration service, Florencia Carignano, said that more than 10,000 pregnant women entered the country over the past year, most of them are no longer in Argentina. The migration service had questions, so she decided to interview some Russian women. She clarified that the Argentinean passport makes it possible to enter 171 countries without a visa and obtain a US visa for 10 years.
RIA Novosti and TASS also write , with reference to an interview with Carignano, that the Argentine migration service began to suspend and cancel the residence permit of Russians who received it through the birth of a child, but then left the country. As noted in the migration service, the measure applies to those who "spent more time abroad than in Argentina." The Migration Service transmits information about those who stayed in the country for about a month and did not return, however, the decision on whether to withdraw a residence permit is made by the court.
On February 10, Sirena reported that Argentine migration officials began to deny pregnant Russian women permission to enter the country. The channel "Argentina in Russian" reports that women are denied with the justification Falso turista ("false tourism"), since their real purposes of entry allegedly do not correspond to those named.
In January, Kommersant noted that in 2022, an increase in the number of Russian tourists was recorded in Argentina – from 2 thousand to 2.5 thousand people. Many of them are pregnant women who plan to give birth in Argentina.
