Arsamikov was detained at Domodedovo Airport on the night of February 16. without bringing any charges against anyone. Arsamikov was kept in de facto detention, without a lawyer being allowed to see him, until the Chechen security forces arrived. They took Arsamikov without any explanation and took him away in an unknown direction. After that, a video about Ukraine and marriage appeared.

Idris himself said that in Chechnya he was persecuted for his orientation. He was already detained in the summer of 2018 near Grozny. Arsamikov was kept in the basement and tortured, as the security forces became aware of his intimate relationship with a man. After that, the SOS Crisis Group helped him escape and emigrate to the Netherlands. He returned to Russia to bury his father. He wrote to human rights activists that he could be kidnapped because of his orientation, and Idris also left a receipt in which he allowed him to contact the media in case of his abduction.
