Kazakh investigative journalist Mikhail Kozachkov transferred from pre-trial detention center to house arrest

Investigative journalist Mikhail Kozachkov, who was arrested in Kazakhstan in December, was released from pre-trial detention center under house arrest. It is reported by KazTAG with reference to the lawyer Elena Zhigalyonok.

Earlier, Kazakh journalists signed an open letter addressed to the President of the country, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, in which they demanded that Kozachkov's preventive measure be changed and that he be placed under house arrest.

The journalist was detained by the Financial Monitoring Agency on charges of complicity with a criminal group engaged in raider seizures. Kozachkov allegedly helped Yeldos Kospaev's organized criminal group by collecting and publishing discrediting information about the victims of raider attacks. KazTAG points out that the detention of the journalist was accompanied by gross violations.

Mikhail Kozachkov works for the Vremya newspaper and is considered one of the most famous investigative journalists in Kazakhstan.
