More than 45 thousand people died in Turkey and Syria because of the earthquake that occurred in early February, reports Reuters.

The death toll in Turkey stands at 39,672, with more than 5,800 deaths recorded in neighboring Syria. Syrian losses did not change for several days.

An earthquake of magnitude 7.7 occurred on February 6, aftershocks exacerbated its devastating effects. It was the deadliest earthquake in Turkey since 1939. According to the Turkish Confederation of Entrepreneurship and Business, the natural disaster caused damage to the country's residential buildings in the amount of about $70 billion and another $10 billion was a loss of national income.
