Dutch intelligence says Russia was collecting data for sabotage in the North Sea – Reuters

In recent months, Russia has been trying to obtain intelligence for a diversion that would affect the Dutch critical infrastructure in the North Sea. This is reported by Reuters with reference to the military intelligence of the Netherlands, which claims that such a case was recorded for the first time.

According to intelligence chief General Jan Svilens, a Russian vessel was spotted near the offshore wind farm trying to map the energy infrastructure. He was taken out of the North Sea with a Coast Guard escort. Svilens claims that the Russian Federation is secretly mapping the functioning of wind farms in the North Sea.

Earlier, Dutch Foreign Minister Wopke Hoekstra said that Russian diplomats must leave the country within two weeks. In addition, by February 20, the Netherlands was going to close its consulate in St. Petersburg. According to the Foreign Ministry, the Russian Federation is trying to import intelligence agents to the Netherlands under the guise of diplomacy. The Netherlands expelled 17 Russian intelligence agents from the country, and the country also stopped issuing short-term visas to Russians.
