Kara-Murza was sent to a punishment cell for lying on a bunk after getting up

Politician Vladimir Kara-Murza, who is in the Moscow SIZO-5 "Vodnik" on charges of "treason" and spreading "fakes" about the army, was sent to a punishment cell for four days. This was told to Dozhd by his lawyer Vadim Prokhorov.

The politician was placed in a punishment cell for the fact that “after getting up he was lying on a bunk.” The detention center where he is being held is headed by the ex-head of Butyrka, Dmitry Komnov, under whom in 2009, due to poor conditions in the detention center, lawyer Sergei Magnitsky fell seriously ill and subsequently died. Magnitsky was transferred to the Matrosskaya Tishina pre-trial detention center just a few hours before his death. Komnov was relieved of his post, later he ended up on the "Magnitsky list", which lists the names of law enforcement officers and employees of the Federal Penitentiary Service involved in the death of a lawyer. Magnitsky's mother said that Komnov was one of those who created torture conditions for her son. In August 2022, Komnov headed Vodnik.

Kara-Murza has been in a Moscow pre-trial detention center on charges of spreading fake news since April 2022. At the time of his arrest, the reason given was the possibility of his leaving the country and his British citizenship. According to the ruling, the case was initiated because of Kara-Murza's speech in the Arizona House of Representatives on March 15, 2022. Kara-Murza was also charged with carrying out the activities of an undesirable organization. On October 27, 2021, he held a conference in support of Russian political prisoners at the Sakharov Center in Moscow with money from the non-governmental organization (NGO) Free Russia Foundation.
