Poachers killed 26 Red Book deer on Sakhalin

In the Okha district of the Sakhalin region, the remains of 26 wild reindeer were found, listed in the Red Book of the region. It is reported by RIA Novosti.

The deer were found by the locals. They filmed a video that went viral on social media on February 24. As the man said behind the scenes, unknown poachers destroyed more than 20 animals, including females, some of which were pregnant.

Apparently, the deer were herded on snowmobiles, then they were beheaded and butchered, and the remains were thrown. According to eyewitnesses, judging by the tracks, these were “not snowstorms, but snowmobiles with a wide goose”.

“The whole herd was killed, 25 Red Book reindeer, 13 females with fry (pregnant females – IF). Here they sat closely (on snowmobiles – IF) and beat the animals. Wherever you go, there is blood everywhere. They beat them, dragged the animals with a rope, drove the herd into a brazen one, ”says an eyewitness.

On the fact of killing animals, the prosecutor's office launched an investigation. Poachers can face imprisonment for a term of three to five years, as well as mandatory compensation for damages. Chairman of the Investigative Committee Alexander Bastrykin instructed the acting. Pavel Kurochkin, Head of the Investigation Department of the Russian Investigative Committee for the Sakhalin Region, to report on the circumstances established during the investigation, Interfax writes .
