RT France files for bankruptcy

RT France, the French subsidiary of the Russian propaganda media RT, which supports the war in Ukraine, has filed for bankruptcy and has been placed in receivership. This is reported by Politico, referring to the court decision of February 23.

The editor-in-chief of RT France, Ksenia Fedorova, filed an application on February 1 with the commercial court of the city of Nanterre. She said the company was suspending all payments and asked for "liquidation proceedings". A hearing in the case was scheduled for April 20.

On January 20, the accounts of the editorial office of RT France were blocked by order of the authorities. A day later, the editor-in-chief of the RT France television channel announced the termination of activities due to the blocking of accounts. Since March 2022, RT has been banned from broadcasting within the EU due to sanctions, however RT France is still allowed to produce content. In December, a new package of sanctions affected RT, leading to a freeze on the assets of the French subsidiary.

The EU has banned Russian news channels from broadcasting in Europe, but Russian propaganda and its audiences can circumvent these restrictions.
