Wizz Air will suspend flights to Moldova from March 14 for security reasons

The Hungarian airline Wizz Air will suspend all flights to Chisinau from March 14 for security reasons. It is reported by Romaniajournal.

The airline will offer passengers additional flights from Iasi airport in Romania, 150 km from the capital of Moldova.

“The safety of passengers and crew remains the number one priority for Wizz Air, as a result of the recent events in Moldova and the high, albeit not 100% possible, risk in the country’s airspace, Wizz Air has taken the difficult but responsible decision to suspend all flights to Chisinau from March 14” .

On February 23, the Russian Ministry of Defense twice reported that Ukraine was preparing an armed provocation in Transnistria in the near future. In response, the Government of Moldova stated that they did not confirm the information of the department, and called on citizens to calm down. Before that, the Moldovan media wrote that Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, in an interview with La Republica, announced Russia's plans to seize the airport in Chisinau to transfer military and equipment to the left bank of the Dniester and open a new front through Moldova. According to him, the Ukrainian special services found out about these plans and warned the Moldovan leadership. Moldovan Prime Minister Dorin Recean confirmed that this is only one of the plans of the Russian Federation, and Moldova is ready for confrontation.
