The owner of Wikipedia was fined 2 million rubles for refusing to remove articles about military units and the war in Ukraine

The magistrate of court district No. 422 of the Tagansky district of Moscow fined the Wikimedia Foundation two million rubles due to Wikipedia's refusal to remove materials about the war in Ukraine. This was reported by the press service of the courts in its Telegram channel.

TASS reports that Wikipedia refused to remove articles about three military units: the 74th Guards Motorized Rifle Brigade (it also has a section on the participation of the brigade in the Chechen war and the war in Ukraine), the 138th separate motorized rifle brigade (also mentions participation in war in 2022), the 92nd Rocket Brigade and articles about the war in Ukraine.

The organization was found guilty of committing an administrative offense under Part 2 of Art. 13.41 Administrative Code of Russia.

In April, Roskomnadzor demanded that the Russian-language Wikipedia remove two sections from an article about Russian President Vladimir Putin – "Relations with Ukraine (2012 – present)" and "After the invasion of Ukraine (2022)". In the second, among other things, there is a subsection "Historical analogies with Hitler", where Putin's actions during the war with Ukraine are compared with the actions of the German dictator during World War II.
