Russia recruits young Palestinians to send to war in Ukraine – media

Some Russian organizations pay young Palestinians $350 each, recruiting them to be sent to Ukraine, The Media Line reports, citing a source in the Lebanese intelligence services. Hezbollah helps the Russians in recruiting, the publication says. The material drew the attention of Radio Liberty.

According to the publication, they are primarily looking for those who can operate drones, and also have experience in guerrilla warfare in urban areas. Palestinians are being sent to the front line, about 300 people have already been sent, the newspaper writes. They underwent express training, another hundred people are now preparing to be sent.

Most of the Palestinians who will fight for Russia on the territory of Ukraine come from the largest Palestinian refugee camp, Ein al-Khalwa. They are also members of the Fatah movement, its leader is the head of the Palestinian Authority, Mahmoud Abbas.

In April 2022, it was reported that Russia was massively recruiting Syrians to be sent to Ukraine, Shoigu announced that 16,000 volunteers from the Middle East were involved, in particular, the Wagner PMC was engaged in this. The recruitment was also reported by the Syrian media. According to the Deir ez-Zor-based publication, Russia was offering volunteers from the country between $200 and $300 to "go to Ukraine and work as security guards" on a six-month contract.
