The occupying Supreme Court of Crimea sentenced a resident of St. Petersburg, who tried to swim from the peninsula to Odessa in order to join an "illegal armed formation" there, to 6 years in a strict regime colony. Interfax writes about this with reference to the press service of the court.
According to her, a man born in 1982 was recruited into a Ukrainian volunteer unit. It is alleged that he first tried to cross the border in the Bryansk region, but failed. After that, he bought a wetsuit, fins, a compass, an underwater lamp and other equipment and tried to swim to Odessa through the Black Sea. On August 8, the man was detained by border guards. He was taken aboard a border guard ship near the village of Olenevka in the Black Sea region.
“He had with him a camouflage uniform, berets and other items acquired to go over to the side of the enemy. He performed various swimming and water recreation techniques, while observing secrecy measures, evading the possible suppression of his illegal activities by employees of the border authorities of the Russian Federation, ”Interfax quoted the press service as saying.
In addition to the term in the colony, he was given an additional punishment – a year of restriction of freedom. The man was found guilty of preparing for a crime, high treason and illegally crossing the state border of Russia (part 1 of article 332 with the application of part 3 of article 30 of the Criminal Code and article 275 with the application of part 1 of article 30 of the Criminal Code).
