Lavrov ridiculed at a conference in Delhi for saying that the Ukrainians started the war against Russia

Participants of the Raisina Dialogue conference in Delhi greeted with a burst of laughter the statement of Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov that the war in Ukraine was “started” against Russia, and Russia wants to stop it. The video from the conference was published by The Washington Post.

“The war against us was unleashed using the Ukrainian people, and we are trying to stop it…,” Lavrov said, after which the audience began to laugh and applaud loudly.

To loud applause, Lavrov emphasized that he considers the conference participants' questions about the war addressed to him as "double standards", especially in comparison with the military intervention of the United States in past decades. “Have you been interested in these years [in] what is happening in Iraq, what is happening in Afghanistan?” he asked his interviewer. “[Do you] believe that the United States has the right to declare a threat to its national interests anywhere on earth, as they did in Yugoslavia, in Iraq, in Libya, in Syria … and you do not ask them any questions?”

The audience of Raisina Dialogue consists of scientists, diplomats and top managers of companies from all over the world, The Washington Post notes.
