Fake “Rossiyskaya Gazeta”: Israel banned Ukrainian state symbols

"Rossiyskaya Gazeta" published an article under the heading "The use of the Ukrainian flag was banned in Israel", which states :

“Israel banned at the legislative level any use or demonstration of Ukrainian symbols, according to the portal kherson-news.ru, citing local residents.

Any demonstration of Ukrainian symbols, including on cars, clothes, in the form of a tattoo or any other arbitrary image, threatens with a fine of 10,000 shekels, which is equal to about 200,000 rubles.”

The same amazing news was spread on Telegram by Channel One host Ruslan Ostashko, Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on Defense and Security Viktor Bondarev and others.

As the Israeli portal newsru.co.il explains , in Israel there are no prohibitions on the state symbols of any countries at all. Moreover, even the law on the prohibition of Nazi symbols has not yet been adopted, which in 2014 passed a preliminary reading in the Knesset, but has not progressed since. Israeli portal writes:

“In recent years, some deputies (in particular, Anat Berko and Eli Cohen from the Likud) have taken initiatives to ban the display of flags of enemy states in Israel (we are talking about countries with which Israel is at war and / or countries that do not recognize Israel's right to exist). But even these legislative initiatives have not yet gone beyond preliminary reading.

In 2016, the Knesset passed the Anti-Terror Law. According to this law, “public expression of solidarity with a terrorist or terrorist organization, expression of sympathy for a terrorist, burning of the flag of Israel, publication of symbols of terrorist organizations can be punished by three years in prison.” On the basis of this law, the current Minister of National Security, Itamar Ben-Gvir, demands a ban on the display of flags of the Palestine Liberation Organization in Israel. But there is no formal ban on the demonstration of Palestinian flags in Israel, some left-wing activists continue to demonstrate with them.

Since the end of February 2023, MK Zvi Sukkot (“Otzma Yehudit”) has been trying to promote the idea of a fine of 10,000 shekels for displaying flags of terrorist organizations, based on a law passed in 2016. Perhaps it was this initiative that “inspired” pro-Russian activists to invent a fake about a ban on displaying Ukrainian symbols in Israel.”

No one interferes with actions in support of Ukraine in Israel, its flags continue to be hung out.
