The term of study in the magistracy in the Russian Federation can be reduced to 1 year

In the new education system, it will be possible to gain in-depth knowledge in a year of study in a master's program, said the Minister of Science and Higher Education of Russia Valery Falkov:

“In the new system of coordinates, it will be possible, in accordance with the demand of the labor market, to prepare or obtain in-depth professional knowledge in a master's program in a year.”

On March 6, it was reported that the Ministry of Education was discussing with the Ministry of Education and Science a “smooth transition” to the new education system.

“We need to return to our roots, to systemic education, to those developments that made our education system strong, it is absolutely necessary,” said Minister of Education Sergei Kravtsov.

On February 21, Vladimir Putin, in his message to the Federal Assembly, proposed returning to the traditional for Russia basic training of specialists with higher education.

Russia joined the Bologna process in 2003. Since then, many universities in the country have switched to a two-level education system, which the process involves: 4 years of bachelor's and 2 years of master's degree. This made it easier for students to continue or transfer to study in other countries.

After the outbreak of the Russian war in Ukraine, Russian politicians increasingly began to call for the abandonment of the Bologna system. The initiative to abandon the process was made by the Secretary of the Security Council, Nikolai Patrushev. As well as Vice Speaker of the State Duma Pyotr Tolstoy, First Deputy Chairman of the House Committee on Science and Higher Education Oleg Smolin, former Minister of Education, President of the Russian Academy of Education (RAO) Olga Vasilyeva, Rector of Moscow State University Viktor Sadovnichy and Chairman of the Association of Lawyers of Russia Sergey Stepashin.

In June last year, all Russian educational organizations were excluded from the Bologna Process. At the same time, Deputy Head of the Ministry of Education and Science Dmitry Afanasiev said that it was "the Bologna system that came out of us, and not we out of it."
