Parliament of Georgia stopped consideration of the draft law on “foreign agents”

The Parliament of Georgia stopped consideration of the draft law on "foreign agents". One deputy voted for its consideration, 35 opposed.

The law imposed by Moscow was adopted by the Georgian parliament in the first reading on March 7. After that, the inhabitants of the country took to the thousands of protests, ending in clashes with the security forces. They used tear gas and water cannons against the protesters. The protesters were supported by Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili, who promised to veto the pro-Russian law.

On March 9, the parties that previously supported the adoption of the bill withdrew the document. Political scientist Gela Vasadze, in an interview with The Insider, called it a victory for civil society and said that parliament is unlikely to return to this law.
