A resident of Uglich was sentenced to 8 years in prison for attempting to set fire to a military registration and enlistment office

The 2nd Western District Military Court found Denis Popov, a resident of Uglich, Yaroslavl Region, guilty in the case of attempting to set fire to a military registration and enlistment office (“Attempted terrorist attack”, part 1 of article 205 of the Criminal Code with the application of part 3 of article 30 of the Criminal Code) and incitement to extremism ( part 2 of article 280 of the Criminal Code). He was sentenced to 8 years in prison. This is reported by TASS with reference to the press service of the regional department of the FSB.

According to the pro-Kremlin agency, Popov was detained in July 2022 while trying to set fire to the Uglich district military enlistment office. It is alleged that this was done "on the instructions of Ukrainian neo-Nazis." Popov allegedly had a self-made Molotov cocktail. Also, according to the press service of the court, in social networks the man called for "committing crimes against participants in the special operation."

After the start of the war, many Russian and Belarusian activists switched to violent protest. They set fire to military registration and enlistment offices and other military infrastructure, cause accidents on railways, and even undermine Russian military aircraft.
