“If I hadn’t done it, I would have hanged myself.” 16-year-old Yegor Balazeykin is accused of terrorism for trying to set fire to the military registration and enlistment office

Tatyana Balazeykina, the mother of 16-year-old Yegor Balazeykin from the Leningrad Region, who is accused of attempting to set fire to a military registration and enlistment office, said in an interview with Dozhd that her son was initially charged with article 167 (“hooliganism”), but later reclassified to 205 part 1 (“terrorist”). Act"). Under this article, he faces up to 15 years in prison. Despite the fact that Yegor is a minor, he is being held in SIZO No. 5 in St. Petersburg, where he was threatened by FSB officers.

“At first they assured me that this was Article 167, and, talking with Yegor in front of me, they said: “You don’t hide anything, tell everything honestly, and then everything will be at the minimum wage.” But during the first interrogation, where a lawyer by appointment was present, we probably didn’t leave this Investigative Committee for 12 hours or more … the investigators very clearly brought him to the wording that they needed to accuse him under Article 205.

Already when I arrived home, the investigator called and said that they had retrained to the 205th, I read about this article and realized that these were the words they uttered to Yegor: “Did you want this? You wanted to influence the government? For her to change her mind? Considering that the child did not sleep all night, the stress and nerves are terrible, he said: "Well, probably, yes."

Then I had the opportunity to talk to him for a couple of minutes and he said: “If I hadn’t done this, then I probably would have hanged myself. Because I can’t walk with this heaviness in my soul, seeing how many people are dying, and my own feeling of powerlessness, because you can’t do anything.

According to Yegor's mother, his uncle died in the war in June of this year, and this emotionally affected the teenager.

In an interview with the We Can Explain channel, Tatyana Balazeykina said that he was diagnosed with autoimmune hepatitis. This is a chronic disease that requires constant medical supervision and therapy. Without medical attention, his condition can quickly worsen and lead to cirrhosis of the liver.

“I think it will be a demonstration execution. He will be given a long term and we will not save him. So that no one would think of anything like that. So that everyone knows that this is punishable and very serious, ”the boy’s mother emphasized.

Yegor Balazeykin is a student of one of the gymnasiums in St. Petersburg. He was detained on February 28, 2023 in Kirovsk (Leningrad region). The police were called by a security guard. The recruiting office did not burn down, two bottles of Molotov cocktails simply broke.

The Telegram channel “The Case of Egor Balazeikin” writes , with reference to the teenager himself, that FSB officers came to him in the temporary detention center, threatened that he would be beaten or raped in the pre-trial detention center, and also that they could hide him in a psychiatric hospital, to which Yegor said: "Do with me what you want, I will not change my position."
