A Russian soldier who confessed to killing a civilian in Ukraine was given a 5.5-year suspended sentence in the Russian Federation for “fake news” about the army

Russian military Daniil Frolkin, who confessed to killing a civilian in Ukraine, received a five and a half year suspended sentence for “fake news” about the army. This is reported by "Important stories" with reference to a man in the courtroom.

This decision was made by the Khabarovsk garrison military court. The day before, the prosecution had asked for six years in real terms for Frolkin.

21-year-old Frolkin became a defendant in the Important Stories investigation in August last year. As part of the 64th separate motorized rifle brigade, he took part in the seizure of the territory of the Kyiv region. In a conversation with reporters, Frolkin admitted that he had killed a civilian. He also spoke about the looting of the Russian military and named the names of the commanders who gave criminal orders.

Frolkin said that he was ordered to escort several civilians to a search, then rob them and "put them to waste". The order was carried out.

In Ukraine, Frolkin is accused of violating the laws and customs of war. For the murder of a civilian, he faces a life sentence.

In early March, a Russian court sentenced Dmitry Ivanov, the author of the Protest MGU Telegram channel, activist Dmitry Ivanov, to eight and a half years in a penal colony, accusing him of spreading “fake news” about the army. Last December, politician Ilya Yashin also received eight and a half years in a general regime colony under this article.
