The Supreme Court of Russia recognized the Legion “Freedom of Russia” as a terrorist organization

The Supreme Court of Russia, at the suit of the Prosecutor General's Office, recognized the Ukrainian association "Legion" Freedom of Russia "" as a terrorist organization.

Earlier, Prosecutor General Igor Krasnov filed a corresponding lawsuit with the Supreme Court.

“The Legion was created with the aim of undermining the foundations of the constitutional order of Russia, overthrowing the government in the country, including by committing terrorist acts, which poses a threat to the security of society and the state,” the Prosecutor General’s Office said in a statement.

The Freedom of Russia Legion is an armed formation in which, according to the Ukrainian authorities, captured Russian soldiers and volunteers with a Russian passport fight on the side of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. There is no independent confirmation of the real existence of the Legion.

Earlier, Ilya Ponomarev, a former deputy of the Russian State Duma, who received Ukrainian citizenship in 2019, spoke about the "Legion" Freedom of Russia "". In April, a press conference was held at the office of the Interfax-Ukraine agency, at which several men in balaclavas identified themselves as members of this detachment.
