Memorial’s office caught fire in Yekaterinburg. The day before, searches were held at the company’s employees in Moscow

In Yekaterinburg on the night of March 22, a fire broke out that affected the office of the Ural Memorial. According to the local publication It's My City, citing the Ministry of Emergency Situations, it all started with the fact that a Porshe Cayenne parked in the yard caught fire, after which the fire spread to the building and other cars.

The office of "Memorial" is located on the first floor of the house on fire, which is located at the address: st. Komintern, 16. The fire damaged the windows and blinds, but the premises themselves were not affected. “It was very lucky that the fire was only on the facade, it didn’t go further. Otherwise, everything would have burned down. It is not clear where this car came from under the windows and why it caught fire. It is very suspicious,” said a representative of the Ural Memorial.

The educational society moved to the building on Komintern, which belongs to the Yeltsin Center, after the authorities of Yekaterinburg evicted it from its previous premises in December. On March 13, the police detained for several hours the driver who was transporting Memorial's belongings to the new office.

The day before, on March 21, the security forces searched the Memorial office in Moscow and the apartments of the employees as part of the case on the “rehabilitation” of Nazism, initiated in early March. In total, searches took place at 10 addresses. In addition, yesterday a criminal case was opened for repeated “discrediting” of the Russian army against Oleg Orlov, a human rights activist and member of the board of the Memorial human rights center liquidated by the Russian authorities. After interrogation, he was released on bail.
