The first deputy director of the FSB, Sergei Korolev, has been removed from the UK sanctions list. This was reported on the website of the British government. The reason for this decision is not specified.
Korolev is a member of the Supervisory Board of Rosatom. He came under sanctions in April 2022. He was an assistant to Defense Minister Anatoly Serdyukov and oversaw the GRU. After Serdyukov's resignation in 2012, Korolev headed the FSB's own security department, becoming one of the most influential generals in the special service.
Earlier, The Insider wrote about how the leader of the Tambov-Malyshev group, Gennady Petrov, did common business with Korolev, who then headed the FSB Economic Security Service. The wiretaps show that it was through Korolev that Petrov tried to lobby for the appointment of Alexander Bastrykin as head of the Investigative Committee.
