Imprisoned in the annexed Crimea, Ukrainian journalist and nurse Irina Danilovich announced a dry hunger strike. She stated that she would continue until she was given "normal medical treatment or until her death." This was reported by Krym.Realii. Danilovich's statement, cited by the publication, says that during the four months she spent in the Russian pre-trial detention center, she was unable to obtain the necessary medical assistance from the administration. She also points out that she cannot read the case file due to health problems. In conclusion, Danilovich suffered a minor stroke, and she also has hearing problems.
“Ignoring my illness, constant transportation from Simferopol to Feodosia, failure to provide medical assistance are inhuman, contrary to all principles of humanity and can be equated with torture! I demand to stop the mockery of me and declare a dry hunger strike, ”Danilovich said in a statement. The journalist's father, Bronislav Danilovich, said that his daughter complained of severe headaches all the time in prison.
In December 2022, Danilovich was sentenced to 7 years in prison in the case of possession of explosives (part 1 of article 222.1 of the Criminal Code). She was also fined 50,000 rubles. According to investigators, the journalist kept 200 grams of explosives in a case for glasses. Danilovich herself said that she was planted. Previously, she collaborated with the human rights project "Crimean Process" and fought for the rights of Crimean medical workers. On June 3, she was included in the list of "foreign agents" of the Russian Ministry of Justice.
