In Minsk, a court sentenced Gennady Mozheiko, a journalist from Komsomolskaya Pravda in Belarus, to three years in a penal colony. The journalist was found guilty of insulting President Alexander Lukashenko and inciting social hatred.
Mozheiko himself does not admit guilt.
The journalist was detained in Moscow in October 2021, after some time it became known that he was taken to the Minsk detention center on Akrestsina.
Mozheiko is the author of a material about the programmer Andrei Zeltser, who was killed by KGB officers. In the article, he cited the words of Zeltser's friend, who spoke positively about him. The day after this article was published, the Belarusian authorities blocked the Komsomolskaya Gazeta website.
The editor-in-chief of the Russian "Komsomolskaya Pravda" Vladimir Sungorkin, commenting on the detention of Mozheiko, called "arbitrariness" the latest events related to "Komsomolskaya Pravda in Belarus".
Zeltser case
On September 28, 2021, in Minsk, KGB officers in civilian clothes came to an apartment building on Yakubovsky Street to carry out, according to the official version, an anti-terrorist raid. They broke into the apartment where Andrey Zeltser, a 32-year-old worker of the American company EPAM Systems, lived with his wife and young son. The programmer opened fire with a hunting rifle and mortally wounded Dmitry Fedosyuk, a soldier of the Alpha special forces. The KGB said that Zeltser was killed by return fire.
