A schoolgirl from Tomsk was sentenced to five months of freedom restriction for “desecration of the flag of Russia”

A court in the Tomsk region sentenced a 17-year-old schoolgirl to five months of restraint of liberty for “desecrating the flag of Russia” (Article 329 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). This is reported by TASS with reference to the press service of the court.

According to the court, in May 2022, a schoolgirl set fire to the national flag of Russia, while in the company of friends. During the meeting, she said that she did it to attract the attention of her classmates. The girl did not put any other meaning into her act. If the verdict is not appealed and enters into force, the schoolgirl will not have to leave her apartment in the evening and at night, and will not be able to leave the region and will be obliged to visit the police.

The criminal case against the schoolgirl was initiated in July. Then TASS wrote that she had committed arson at a bus stop in the village of Oktyabrskoye. The legal representative of the girl was brought to administrative responsibility for improper performance of parental duties.
