Armenian Constitutional Court: The country’s obligations to the ICC, which issued the arrest warrant for Putin, are in line with the constitution

The Constitutional Court of Armenia recognized the obligations enshrined in the Rome Statute on the International Criminal Court (ICC) as conforming to the constitution. At the end of 2022, the Armenian government applied to the Constitutional Court on this issue in order to call Azerbaijan to account for the crimes committed on the territory of Karabakh.

In March 2023, the International Court of Justice in The Hague issued an arrest warrant for Russian President Vladimir Putin and Russian Commissioner for Children's Rights Maria Lvova-Belova.

Against the background of these reports, the speaker of the Armenian parliament Alen Simonyan noted that the constitutional court of the republic should establish the legitimacy of Armenia's accession to the Rome Statute: "If this does not comply with the constitution, then I think the court will make an appropriate decision."
