The 235th garrison military court arrested Colonel Sergei Volkov, head of the Department of the Naval Administration of the Russian Guard, in the case of abuse of office (part 3 of article 286 of the Criminal Code). According to TASS, the preventive measure was chosen in the form of detention until May 17.
Volkov is suspected of supplying low-quality radar systems to combat drones, which are used to protect the Kerch bridge. It is reported that the total damage to the budget amounted to almost 400 million rubles. The suspect pleaded not guilty. He faces up to 10 years in prison.
The lawyer asked to leave the client under house arrest, reminding the court that Volkov participated in the hostilities and received a severe concussion. In addition, the lawyer said that Volkov was caring for his sick father.
Searches were carried out in the security official's house and in his office.
On March 28, State Duma deputy Alexander Khinshtein announced the suppression of the corruption scheme, which was carried out by employees of the Russian Guard. He stated that the scale of the crime indicated that there were other participants in the criminal scheme.
