The court in Orenburg acquitted the police officers who beat the detainee

The Central District Court of Orenburg acquitted three police officers who were accused of beating a detainee, OpenGrad reports . The publication notes that the defendants arrived at the meeting driving their cars, from which it can be concluded that they had no doubts about the acquittal.

Lawyer Eldar Sharafutdinov, representing the interests of the victim Gennady Shvetsov, promised to appeal the court's decision. “We practically don’t have acquittals, but with such a heavy composition, with the evidence that was available, and at the same time to acquit, this rarely happens in my memory,” the lawyer said.

The prosecutor's office requested for police officers Aset Kulkushev, Yevgeny Strelkov and Danila Nikulshin 6.5 years in prison.

According to the investigation, in October 2021, police detained Shevtsov, 18, from Orenburg, on suspicion of stealing a phone. According to the detainee, Kulkushev, Strelkov and Nikulshin beat him and threatened him with rape, demanding to confess to the crime.

A month later, Shevtsov was sent to a pre-trial detention center on charges of robbery: allegedly, together with an acquaintance, he took away a phone from a resident of Orenburg, threatening him with a weapon.
