MIPT employee arrested in Moscow because of comments about the war

A court in Moscow arrested Viktor Moskalev, an employee of the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology, on charges of spreading “fakes” about the Russian army motivated by hatred (clause “e”, part 2, article 207.3 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). According to OVD-Info, the case was initiated due to two comments on the e-xecutive.ru website published in April 2022.

One of the comments spoke about the destruction of Mariupol and the shelling of other Ukrainian cities by Russian troops. The second mentioned looting and rape committed by Russian servicemen.

On March 28, the security forces came to Moskalev's house with a search and seized all the equipment. He faces up to 10 years in prison.

The Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (MIPT) told RIA Novosti that Moskalev holds the position of project manager at the center of scientific and technical initiatives in the field of Mobile Energy Storage Technologies. The university emphasized that the arrested employee was engaged in civil projects and had no access to state secrets.
