Putin dismissed Russian ambassadors to Latvia and Estonia

Vladimir Putin dismissed Russian ambassadors to Latvia and Estonia, media reported .

In January, the Russian Foreign Ministry demanded that Latvian Ambassador Maris Riekstins leave Russia within two weeks. This was done in response to the statement of the Latvian Foreign Minister that from February 24 the country will lower the level of diplomatic relations with Russia as a sign of solidarity with Estonia.

On January 23, the Foreign Ministry announced that the Estonian ambassador should leave Russia on February 7. This decision was a response to the reduction in the size of the Russian embassy in Tallinn, the ministry said.

Last year, the Latvian Saeima declared Russia a sponsor of terrorism. The same decision was made by the Estonian Parliament.
