Russian military committed 270 crimes in Bucha every day for a month, 1,400 civilians were killed – Prosecutor General of Ukraine

During more than a month of occupation of the Buchansky district of the Kyiv region in 2022, the Russian military committed more than nine thousand war crimes. This was announced by the Prosecutor General of Ukraine Andriy Kostin on his Facebook page.

According to Kostin, from February 27 to March 31, 2022, more than 270 crimes were committed daily. Over 1,400 civilians were killed in 33 days, many of them were tortured to death. Among the dead were 37 children. Another 52 children were injured.

“I am sure that all these crimes are not accidental. This is part of Russia's planned strategy to destroy Ukraine as a state and as a nation. We will not stop until all the organizers and perpetrators of war crimes are convicted,” wrote Kostin.

The prosecutor's office for the year reported suspicion to almost a hundred military of the Russian Federation, lawsuits began against 35 military personnel. Among them is a colonel general, commander of the Central Military District of Russia, who led the occupation of the Sumy, Chernihiv and Kyiv regions.

The world learned about the killings of civilians in Bucha on April 2, 2022, when journalists and the Ukrainian military entered the city liberated from Russian occupation. The footage published online showed the streets where the corpses lay, including those with their hands tied behind their backs. The Insider spoke to residents of Bucha, who described how the Russian military shot random passers-by, robbed houses and prevented them from leaving.

Russian military man Nikita Chibrin, who escaped from the front, from the 64th motorized rifle brigade, who is accused of crimes in Bucha, told The Insider about the facts of looting and rape that he witnessed.
