A gay man from Chechnya detained in Domodedovo is forcibly kept in his village – Sota and SOS

The Sota publication and the SOS Crisis Group project claim that they have tracked down the Chechen gay Idris Arsamikov, who was abducted by security forces from Domodedovo on February 16. As Sota writes, he is alive, but is "actually imprisoned in his native village."

The correspondent of the publication and the lawyers of the IC SOS project arrived in the Chechen village where the Arsamikov family lives. They did not manage to see the man himself, but they talked with local residents and Arsamikov's mother. The mother claims that her son works as a tractor driver in the field and does not use a mobile phone. Other villagers confirmed that Arsamikov was alive.

Arsamikov, 28, was first detained in the summer of 2018 near Grozny. He was kept in the basement and tortured, as the security forces became aware of his intimate relationship with a man. After that, the SOS Crisis Group helped him escape and emigrate to the Netherlands. On February 15, he was detained at Moscow's Domodedovo airport, he was flying to Chechnya from the Netherlands to attend his father's funeral. Arsamikov managed to inform the coordinators of the SOS Crisis Group project about his detention, as well as that the border guards took him to the basement. He said that the Chechen security forces had left for him. Later, a video was published on Arsamikov's VK page in which he stated that he planned to "treat", get married and poison himself for the war with Ukraine.
