WSJ: The siloviki followed Gershkovich until his trip to Yekaterinburg. He suspected that his phone was tapped.

Journalist Evan Gershkovich was followed by Russian law enforcement officers until his arrest, according to The Wall Street Journal .

According to the publication, the security forces accompanied Gershkovich during one of his journalistic assignments, even before his trip to Yekaterinburg. His movements were filmed and pressure was put on his sources not to talk to him, the paper said.

Gershkovich assumed that his phone was tapped.

During another trip, to Pskov, unknown people followed him and also filmed him on camera.

Earlier, a journalist from one of the English-language media told the Agency about surveillance of Gershkovich.

Journalist Pyotr Kozlov writes , citing a Russian government official and Kremlin employee, that the surveillance, detention and transfer of Gershkovich from Yekaterinburg to Moscow was organized by employees of the military counterintelligence department of the FSB.

Gershkovich was detained in Yekaterinburg on March 30. The Lefortovo Court of Moscow arrested him for two months on charges of espionage.
