Japanese composer Ryuichi Sakamoto dies

Japanese composer and musician Ryuichi Sakamoto has died at the age of 71. He died on March 28, but this was announced only now.

Sakamoto has written music for such films as The Revenant, Babylon, Femme Fatale, and others. The composer is also the author of soundtracks for several films by Italian director Bernardo Bertolucci – "The Last Emperor", "Under the Cover of Heaven", "Little Buddha". Winner of the Oscar and Grammy awards, two-time winner of the Golden Globe.

In 1978, Sakamoto, Haruomi Hosono and Yukihiro Takahashi created the Yellow Magic Orchestra synthpop project. The group became the pioneers of the Japanese electronic scene. On July 10, 2014, Sakamoto's official website announced that he had been diagnosed with cancer.
