Belarus launches procedure for transferring Sofia Sapieha to Russia

The procedure for the transfer to Russia of Sofya Sapega, a Russian woman sentenced in Belarus to six years in prison, has been launched. This was reported to TASS by lawyer Anton Gashinsky. However, Gashinsky did not answer the question about the timing of its transfer. "No comment," the lawyer said.

The day before, the Baza Telegram channel reported that Sapieha's parents filed a petition with the Ministry of Justice to transfer her to a Russian colony. According to Baza, the Belarusian side has given its consent to the transfer, and now the Sapieha family is awaiting trial, which will determine the term of punishment in Russia.

In mid-March, Sapega, convicted in Belarus on a criminal case on the administration of protest Telegram channels, was included in the list of persons involved in terrorism. At the end of January, she was denied a pardon because her case did not meet all the necessary “criteria,” said Olga Chupris, deputy head of the Belarusian presidential administration. She stressed that Sapieha was refused “quite legally”, without “any prejudice”.

On May 6, a court in Belarus sentenced Sapieha to 6 years in prison. The girl was charged under seven criminal articles. In particular, she was found guilty of "illegal collection and dissemination of information about private life, constituting the personal and family secrets of another person, without his consent, which caused harm to the rights, freedoms and legitimate interests of the victim."
