A court in Buryatia found three police officers guilty of killing two girls in the village of Klyukvennaya Pad in 2002 and sentenced them to up to 18 years in prison. One of the defendants was released in the courtroom due to the expiration of the statute of limitations. This was reported by Mediazona with reference to the press service of the court.
One of the policemen, Yevgeny Inkin, was sentenced to 17 years in a strict regime colony. He was found guilty of the murder of two people, coupled with violent acts of a sexualized nature (Article 105 of the Criminal Code, part 2) and illegal possession of firearms (Article 222 of the Criminal Code, part 1). And also in the abduction of a person (Article 126 part 2), but he was released from punishment under this article due to the expiration of the statute of limitations. Inkin was also acquitted under the article on attempted murder of a person in connection with the performance of official activities by this person or the performance of public duty (Article 30 part 3, Article 105 of the Criminal Code part 2).

Alexander Popov was given five years in prison, but was released from punishment due to the expiration of the statute of limitations for prosecution.
In 2002, the bodies of two girls, aged 17 and 18, were found in Cranberry Pad, chopped up with an axe. The dead were Yevgenia Shekunova and Ekaterina Pateyuk. The suspects in the case appeared only 17 years later, when the third girl, who had witnessed the murders, decided to testify. She said that she was able to escape when the police began to molest the girls. A few days after the double murder, the police tried to drown the witness in the river.
