The FSB detained a married couple in Nizhny Tagil for “spying for Ukraine.” Earlier, journalist Evan Gershkovich, who returned from there, was arrested

The FSB detained a married couple in Nizhny Tagil for "espionage in the interests of Ukraine" at a military-industrial complex enterprise in Nizhny Tagil, TASS reports. Both were arrested under the article on treason.

As the FSB told TASS, the couple “handed over to the special services of Ukraine information of a military-technical nature that could be used against the RF Armed Forces for a monetary reward.” During a search at the place of residence of the suspects allegedly “objects of espionage activity” were confiscated. The publication also writes that the detainees admitted to handing over the drawings.

Earlier, the American journalist of The Wall Street Journal Evan Gershkovich was arrested on suspicion of espionage. Shortly before his arrest, he visited Nizhny Tagil. The FSB said that the journalist was trying to obtain secret information on the instructions of the American government and was collecting materials on the activities of one of the enterprises of the military-industrial complex. In Nizhny Tagil, in particular, there is a defense enterprise "Uralvagonzavod".

Independent journalists and mass media demanded the release of the arrested Gershkovich. The letter , published by Meduza, says that the accusations against Gershkovich are far-fetched and unfair, he has an impeccable reputation as a journalist, whose work has always met the highest standards of journalism.

The Insider supports the demands of colleagues and also considers the accusations against Gershkovich unfounded.
