Twitter has stopped hiding pro-Kremlin accounts — restrictions on displaying and promoting tweets have been lifted, while some posts by opposition activists, on the contrary, have been banned. The Agency drew attention to this. For example, if a new social network user from the UK searches for “embassy”, then Twitter will be the first to give out the account of the Russian embassy. When you enter "vlad", the third line will give out the account of propagandist Vladimir Solovyov. At the same time, at the beginning of the war, the Twitter administration stated that it would not promote such content.
At the same time, several tweets of Conflict Intelligence Team founder Ruslan Leviev and Novosibirsk artist Artyom Loskutov are not available to users in Russia. "Agency" refers to the correspondence between the administration of the social network and Roskomnadzor. Leviev regularly publishes analytics about the war in Ukraine and anti-war posts, Loskutov is known as the author of "Monstration" – a procession under absurdist slogans. Also in 2012, Loskutov painted a picture in support of Pussy Riot – the picture shows the Mother of God in a balaclava, and instead of Jesus – a girl with pigtails. Loskutov was fined for insulting the feelings of believers. On Twitter, the post was hidden "in response to legal demands." The correspondence says that the social network requested a judicial act from Roskomnadzor before blocking, but whether it was sent is unknown.
Leviev, in turn, blocked a tweet from December 2014 with a video called "Appeal of a Russian nationalist fighting for Ukraine" – in the video, an unknown person in a mask wishes the Ukrainians to win, and the Russians – to change power.
Changes in the issuance algorithms likely indicate that the leadership of the social network has canceled last year's restrictions, a former Twitter top manager told The Telegraph on condition of anonymity.
The Russian authorities have already reacted to the changes in the behavior of the Twitter administration. Deputy head of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy Anton Gorelkin, as well as the Safe Internet League, on Monday proposed considering the possibility of removing the blocking from Twitter – it was blocked in Russia in March 2022 "for spreading illegal information."
