Yuri Yevich, a Russian military doctor, a participant in hostilities in Ukraine, was put on trial for "discrediting the army" (part 1 of article 20.3.3 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation), pro-government publications report . A lawsuit against him was filed by a representative of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs for Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk after he gave a lecture on military-patriotic education in Sakhalin to the National Guard.
Yevich assumes that the case was initiated by the local authorities, and is going to defend his innocence in court, which is to be held on April 18 in the Kaluga region.
The protocol on an administrative offense mentions four quotations from a three-hour lecture during which the military doctor, according to the court, “made statements aimed at creating a negative assessment of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation in view of the conduct of the SVO.” Yevich, in particular, pointed to the insufficient level of training and equipment in the medical field among the employees of the National Guard.
Yuri Yevich is a popularizer of tactical medicine, the author of books and courses on this discipline. Born in Gorlovka, Donetsk region. After the outbreak of the conflict in eastern Ukraine in 2014, he joined the ranks of the armed formations of the unrecognized DPR, where he received the rank of senior lieutenant of the medical service. In 2022, he participated in the Russian invasion of Ukraine as part of the Union of Donbass Volunteers organization.
