Denmark refused to transfer F-16 fighters to Ukraine on its own, but the decision will be made by Western countries “before the summer” – Poulsen

Acting Danish Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen during a visit to Ukraine said that Western countries would decide before the summer to transfer F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine. It is reported by Le Figaro. Discussion takes time because countries must act together, but a solution remains achievable "in the short term," Poulsen said.

The head of the defense department specified that Denmark would not independently transfer aircraft to Ukrainian troops and would wait for the collective consent of Western countries.

“We will do this together with other countries. We will also have a dialogue with the Americans on this topic. But, according to my estimates, in a short time we will be able to come to a decision,” Poulsen said.

During a visit to Odessa, where Poulsen met with the head of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense Oleksiy Reznikov, he said that Denmark would transfer 19 Caesar self-propelled artillery mounts to Ukraine within a month.

Ukraine has been asking Western countries for fighter jets for several months now. President Volodymyr Zelensky, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba and Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov spoke about the importance of aviation supplies. But the US authorities have so far refused to supply. In late February, President Joe Biden, in an interview with ABC News, stated that “Zelensky does not need F-16s now,” but tanks, artillery, air defense, including Himars MLRS.
