The Russian was sentenced to 4.5 years in prison for trying to join the “Legion” Freedom of Russia “”

A court in Belgorod sentenced Sergey Glushenkov, accused of “preparing to commit high treason,” to four and a half years in a strict regime colony, writes Mediazona, citing the press service of the court.

Glushenkov was also given a year and a half of restriction of freedom and a fine of 300,000 rubles.

Glushenkov was detained while trying to cross the border with Ukraine in the Belgorod region. According to investigators, he was going to join the Legion "Freedom of Russia" and start fighting for Ukraine.

The Freedom of Russia Legion is a military unit of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, formed, according to Ukrainian officials, from Russian prisoners of war and volunteers who defected to Ukraine. At the same time, there is no independent confirmation of the real existence of the Legion.

In April, a press conference was held at the office of the Interfax-Ukraine agency, at which several men in balaclavas identified themselves as members of this detachment. They did not give their names.
