“Kazan shooter” Ilnaz Galyaviev received a life sentence

Accused of killing nine people in a Kazan gymnasium in 2021, Ilnaz Galyaviev received a life sentence. This was reported by the correspondent of RIA Novosti from the courtroom.

In the UK, the reason for the shooting was called Galyaviev’s desire to “imitate representatives of a destructive subculture”:

“According to the materials of the criminal case, the cause of the tragic events was Galyaviev’s desire to imitate the actions of informal representatives of one of the destructive subcultures, information about which he learned from the Internet, copying their behavior during the attack. In accordance with the conclusion of a comprehensive psychological and psychiatric examination, Galyaviev was recognized as sane and subject to criminal liability. Galyaviev admitted his guilt in full, he repented of his deed.

Earlier, Galyaviev said that he plans to write a book, and use the income from publication to pay compensation.

On May 11, 2021, 19-year-old Ilnaz Galyaviyev opened fire at Kazan gymnasium No. 175. As a result of the terrorist attack, 9 people were killed, including 7 children, and more than 20 people were injured. In addition to shooting, the attacker could have set off one or more explosions in the gymnasium building, several school students who were in class at the time of the attack told The Insider. As Kommersant wrote , Galyaviev was diagnosed with brain atrophy in 2020. This disease is accompanied by the death of the cells that make up the brain. At the beginning of 2021, the disease worsened: he finally quarreled with his parents and abandoned the college where he studied as a programmer.
