The court fined the Wikimedia Foundation another 2 million rubles for not removing articles from Wikipedia

The court fined the Wikimedia Foundation project, which manages Wikipedia, another 2 million rubles for failing to remove "fakes" about the Russian army from the encyclopedia's website. It is reported by RIA Novosti.

On November 1, the Tagansky District Court of Moscow also fined the Wikimedia Foundation 2 million rubles. In May, Roskomnadzor demanded that Wikipedia remove the English-language articles Rashism (“Rashizm”) and 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine (“Russian invasion of Ukraine – 2022”). In April, Roskomnadzor also sent two notices to the Russian-language Wikipedia demanding the removal of sections from an article about Vladimir Putin – "Relations with Ukraine (2012 – present)" and "After the invasion of Ukraine (2022)". In the second section there is a subsection "Historical analogies with Hitler", where Putin's actions during the war with Ukraine are compared with the actions of the German dictator during World War II.

The authorities of the Russian Federation do not leave attempts to replace Instagram, YouTube and Wikipedia with domestic services in the country. Only Wikipedia was planned to be replaced in the country twice already: by the Knowledge portal, where you need to fill out a questionnaire, indicating your full name, title, position and area of scientific interests, and by the Runiversalis project. On August 23, Runiversalis was launched in Russia – the domestic version of Wikipedia "without Western influence", the war in Ukraine was called a "special operation" in the news on the propaganda portal. Three hours after the launch, the service stopped working, but later its work was restored.

Russians continue to use foreign services, such as the American Instagram instead of Rosgram, even after the blocking, by installing a VPN. An attempt by the authorities to create an analogue of YouTube – RuTube has also not been successful so far. The CEO of Gazprom-Media, Alexander Zharov, admitted that RuTube will not be able to replace American video hosting.
